As far back as I can remember, I’ve always been attracted to the arts. My parents bought me a Mr. Sketch drawing set when I was quite young. It was the first step to that creativity, although I can’t say they were particularly interested in encouraging me to pursue an art career. Growing up on a modest farm, then in a small town in the mid-West, art wasn’t something we had on our walls or talked about. Usually, the conversation centered around weather, the price of corn and beans, and neighbor or family gossip. Not in that order.”
The attraction to the arts never left me even though my career took me in directions not often related to the fine arts, although still in the creative field of graphic design, advertising, and marketing. I owned an advertising and design studio for thirty years. Then, I closed out my career as a marketing manager for a Northern California community college in Napa.
Deep Dive
I'm enthusiastic about the next chapter, I’ve rekindled my creative passion for painting. I can describe creating my works of art as an act of worship. It truly is creating something from nothing. Ideas often come during unexpected moments of contemplation or worldly observations.
I see my style as deeply satisfying and personally liberating. My paintings have an immediate impact. My works feel alive, engaging with the vibrant use of color and brushwork. There is a complexity to the strong layers of color as I explore form, texture, and composition. I am always seeking to engage the viewer through a visual and emotional connection with the canvas.”
Journey of Exploration
My artistic process doesn’t stop with the last brush stroke. It continues to be enhanced through the eyes of the viewer, engaging their thoughts and emotions. Often a second or third look at one of my paintings reveals a new dimension not previously detected. It might be a brushstroke or how the eye sweeps across the canvas. You be the judge.
Knowledge and observation are essential elements of my work. I'm excited and passionate about the endless possibilities that lay ahead in exploring the creative process, and what it brings to my art.
This journey of exploration is one that I hope you’ll find interesting and appealing.
